What are nutraceuticals?
Some of the most powerful living-longer ingredients in nature are derived from deeply pigmented fruits and vegetables. There is great science behind lutein from marigolds, beta carotene from carrots, astaxanthin from sea algae and lycopene from tomatoes. These, along with vitamin C, super vitamin E with both tocopherols and tocotrienols plus CoQ10, are the top seven nutrients known to benefit the skin. They are in every Ecco Bella Skin Care with FortiSomes product. We use them in our NutraChic for beauty from within and in our skincare for double the benefits.
What makes FortiSomes more powerful vitamins?
Each Ecco Bella vitamin is encapsulated into trillions of soy-based lecithin microspheres, which we call FortiSomes. They protect delicate vitamins from the air, and deliver anti-aging benefits deep into the skin, where they are needed. This results in a fresh, vibrant, youthful-looking glow!
What is MSM?
MSM, (Methylsulfonylmethane), is an organic sulfur-containing compound essential for optimal health. The MSM used in Boon Broth is the purest form and is the only GRAS-designated, Kosher and Halal certified, non-GMO, gluten-free, allergen-free, non-shellfish-derived, vegan MSM backed by extensive toxicology data.

What is Ecco Bella's mission?
Ecco Bella was started out of protest against the testing on animals in the production of cosmetics, and its mission has expanded to the creation of products from the universe of organics and nutraceuticals. This way we support organic farming, too.
As an activist company, we source ingredients from ethical suppliers of organic materials, and stay away from ingredients that may cause harm to people or the environment. We speak out on behalf of animals and the environment at every opportunity. All of our products are made here in the U.S.A except for our cosmetic pencils which are currently made in Mexico. Although we try to source our components from the U.S.A., some components are sourced from other countries.
We never use animal testing or any ingredients created from animals, such as stearic acid, tallow, lanolin, dairy or collagen. We've been eagerly searching for alternatives to carmine, our only remaining animal ingredient. Carmine is derived from the cochineal beetle, and used in some pink colors.
Besides speaking out for animals and working to conserve the environment, we make products that help you conserve money. Every Ecco Bella skin care product provides both anti-aging and anti-blemish benefits.

What ingredients will I not find in Ecco Bella products?
Our products are free of paraben*, water, alcohol, talc, FD & C dyes, and any animal product (except carmine for pink colors). Our products do not use gluten. However, the products are not made in a gluten free facility. *Mascara is paraben-free and contains phenoxyethanol, a preservative also known as rose ether.
Are Ecco Bella's products non-comedogenic (not a cause of blemishes)?
Yes.
What is greenwashing?
Greenwashing is the act of claiming to benefit the environment, when one is not doing so--or when one may even be taking actions that harm the environment. An example of greenwashing in cosmetics is when companies overstate the percentage of organic ingredients in a product by utilizing floral waters, or list herbal extracts first on the label, which is not allowed by law. Ecco Bella does not do this.
Are Ecco Bella products paraben-free?
Yes, Ecco Bella products are free of parabens. All Ecco Bella products are preservative-free except for our Shampoos and Conditioners, which contain benzyl alcohol, salicylic acid and sorbic acid; Mascara and Natural Foundation contain phenoxyethanol, an ingredient also known as rose ether.
Are there any heavy metals, such as lead, in the products?
Ecco Bella FlowerColor Lipsticks and eyeshadow have been tested for lead, cadmium and mercury. As of January 15, 2008, independent lab results showed only negligible amounts, as follows: Lead 0.08 ppm, Cadmium 0.90 ppm, Mercury 0.046 ppm. The FDA allows 0.10ppm of lead in candy, so our results are even lower than that standard. Instead of FD and C dyes, we use only iron oxides and carmine, so our lipsticks are as pure as the raw materials we buy.
Do Ecco Bella products contain any dairy products, such as lactose or cassein?
No.
Which Ecco Bella products are vegan?
Currently all products are vegan except for the following items which contain carmine. Lipsticks: Pink Rose, Mauve Rose, Claret Rose, Tuscany Rose, Napa Grape, Primrose and REDvelation. Good For You Gloss: Pleasure and Passion. Blush: Burgundy Rose and Orchid Rose. Lip Liner Pencil: Mauve. Beige and Medium Beige.
What is carmine?
Carmine is a purified version of cochineal extract, used as a dyeing agent in foods and cosmetic products. Cochineal is an insect--a beetle--that is found in Mexico, Central America and South America. The dye, commonly known as carmine, is extracted either from the dried bodies of deceased female cochineal beetles or from the unfertilized eggs laid by female cochineal beetles. The carmine dyes derived from cochineal produce a natural red or pink color.
Why do some companies use grapefruit seed extract and Vitamin E to preserve their products?
Grapefruit seed extract and vitamin E are not full spectrum preservatives that kill bacteria and mold. Vitamin E is an antioxidant. It is great for keeping oils from going rancid, but it will not kill bacteria. When a product contains water, the potential bacterial contamination and resulting risk of infection to the consumer is far greater than the risk posed from a preservative.
How are Ecco Bella products tested?
Animal testing is unacceptable to Ecco Bella in any form, because it is both cruel and provides unreliable results. Such testing is not required by law. We test our products on ourselves, and we use ingredients that have been in use for years and which are considered safe. Currently there are alternatives to animal tests that use cell membranes and computer modeling to determine safety.
Are Ecco Bella products safe for those people with allergies or sensitive skin? Are they considered hypoallergenic?
There is no such thing as hypoallergenic. It is marketing hype. Any consumer could, at any time, find themself allergic to any ingredient. At Ecco Bella, we have simplified the formulas, and use very mild ingredients--so allergic reaction is rare. Many people with chemical sensitivities and allergies use our products successfully, but for those with known multiple sensitives, we suggest doing a patch test before applying any new product.
What is the shelf-life of Ecco Bella products?
Skin Care: Approximately 3 years unopened; 1 year opened. For Cosmetics we recommend the following: AFTER OPENING – Mascara: 3 months; Lipcolor/Foundation/Face Powder/Eyeshadow and Blush: 6 months; Sponges: discard every 3 days
Why don't Ecco Bella cosmetics contain talc?
Similar in chemical composition to asbestos, talc is highly migratory in body tissues, and has now been classified to be a "known carcinogen." Talc-based powders have been linked to ovarian cancer, as they can easily work their way up the reproductive tract. As such, it recently was even removed from children's crayons. Why voluntarily put it on your skin? Talc is a base used by most cosmetics companies for eyeshadow, blush and face powders. Ecco Bella has developed an exclusive formula that replaces talc with mica, kaolin, cornstarch and flower wax-coated pigments, for a superior, silky, long-lasting feel.
What are Flower Cutins?
Have you ever noticed how rain and dew tends to "bead" on flower petals, instead of saturating them? That is because each petal is coated with a layer of delicate cutin, which forms a protective barrier on the flower's petals. Without it, the blooms would quickly wilt. Flower cutin is good for your skin, too, creating a layer of protection that keeps your natural moisture from seeping through your makeup, letting you look fresh, longer.
Flower cutin is a by-product of the creation of essential oils for perfume. Flower cutins are the solid materials that are left over after the plant's essential oil is extracted and chilled. This process separates the flower wax (the solid material) from the essential oil, which is sold to create the world's finest perfumes. We use the flower waxes to make our cosmetics silky.

Are Ecco Bella cosmetics "long-lasting"?
Companies that pioneered long-lasting make-up (make-up that stays on for 6 or 8 hours) utilized a silicone-based formula that is very drying to the skin. We do not wish to copy these formulas. Our products last a reasonably long time on the skin because the flower cutins help to prevent the cosmetics from 'moving'.
Is Ecco Bella for men, too?
Absolutely. Men have sensitive skin, just like women, and can benefit from our Doctor-Approved Skin Care with FortiSomes. Men have a tendency to develop foliculitis, an ingrown hair condition which results from shaving. To prevent this, we recommend the following after shaving: Apply Mist-On Toner, and follow-up with Leave-on Invisible Exfoliant and Blemish Remedy. This will keep the follicles from becoming plugged. The Age-Antidote Cream SPF 15 should be used to prevent sun damage. Many men already enjoy our Water-Free Herbal Body Lotions. These lotions help relieve dry skin on hands and feet, where men need it most.
Why use water, when you can drink all you need for free?
You will find certified organic aloe vera, instead of water, in all of our hair care, skin and body products. 3,000 years in the making, aloe vera has been moisturizing and enhancing skin since the time of Cleopatra. When used daily, the lush, anti-aging enzymes and saccarides in aloe vera help stimulate cell renewal six to eight times faster than normal.
What is Ecco Bella's position on nanotechnology?
The micronization of metals such as titanium or zinc for use in sunscreens, or of silver for use as an antibacterial, is causing controversy concerning the safety of nanotechnology. In micron size, these metals may or may not react unpredictably within the body. Ecco Bella does not use nanotechnology for metals. We do use nanotechnology to protect and increase bioavailability of food-grade nutrients. We encapsulate our GRAS (Generally Recognized As Safe) nutrients--lutein, lycopene, beta-carotene, astaxanthin, zeastaxanthin, vitamin E, vitamin C and CoQ10--within liposomes. We call these liposomes FortiSomes. The FortiSomesare made of lecithin, a natural plant-based emulsifier from soy, and they contain and protect the nutrients so that they are fresh and potent when you put them on your skin. There are trillions of these VitaminCell spheres in every bottle of Ecco Bella Skin Care with FortiSomes.
What are Flowercolor cosmetics?
Flowercolor is make-up from earth minerals infused with precious flower cutins. Just as a flower stays beautiful over time, this flower wax-infused make-up glides on and lasts longer. Professionals use it, and actresses demand it. You'll love it. Look for the refillable compacts for eyeshadow and blush.
Gluten-free. Preservative-free*. For sensitive skin. *Foundation and mascara require mild preservatives.
Do you save my card details?
We never store your credit card details. That's the short answer. The longer answer is, your details are handled with an industry standard called tokenization, which means that we never have access to any sensitive part of your card data. When you enter your credit card information and click on "Pay", we receive a non-decipherable sequence of characters called a token from our payment processor (the certified company that is connected to VISA, MasterCard and other payment networks). This token is used to reference your particular card, without exposing any of its details to us. We can't use this token to get the actual card data that you have entered.
Can I use more than one coupon on my order?
No only one coupon allowed per order.
